I was born into a medicine family in China where every child was expected to go to medical school. But I was never crazy about pills or surgical knives. Fascinated by the 5000 years old herb medicine and acupuncture, I started my training in medicine by taking acupuncture lessons from a traditional Chinese doctor in a far away village. My dream to become one was over soon, however, after a patient passed out under my needles and broke his nose. Following my parents' advice "do no harm," I studied physics instead. After finishing my education in United States and becoming a licensed attorney in Missouri, however, I found my passion in art and fell in love with painting brushes and pallet knives. I have been learning from masters of art and my favorite teachers include Monet, Renoir and Von Gogh. A compulsive painter, I experiment with various media and methods. I like oil, watercolor and pastel, but I am crazy about acrylic because it can act like watercolor or oil, and can be put on almost any surface and it allows you to paint with burst of energy. |
